In order to meet the school space requirements of the City of Zurich, Switzerland in the long term, a new school complex with 15 classrooms for the primary school (PS), 3 classrooms for the curative education school (HPS), two music rooms for the Zurich Conservatory Music School (MKZ), a double sports gymnasium and a school swimming facility is to be built on the municipal property in Zurich-Albisrieden, Switzerland. The school complex is embedded in a public park area, where the school’s outdoor sports facilities are also located.

The urban development concept takes into account the high-quality public pathways and green open air space system in the urban quarter of the Rautistrasse, the Altstetterstrasse and the Albisriederstrasse of Zurich, Switzerland. This will be further developed into a uniformly comprehensible park area, taking into consideration existing facilities. A central attraction for leisure, sport, recreation, education and community will thus be created.

The building construction concept is functionally complex and effective at the same time. The compact structure integrates the entire classroom program under one roof and thus creates a high degree of spatial efficiency. This promises to provide an economical building with energy, functional and operational advantages. Short distances for users – short distances for technical installations. The built-up area of the site is retained small in size. Much outdoor space is retained, which can be used by the public also. The flexible spatial structure offers room for maneuver for future changes of use and structural adjustments. Synergies and diverse potentials for spontaneous use of space thus obtain for the user. The result is added value for the school, local societies and the neighborhood at large.
