As part of the school space planning, the “Comprehensive Renovation of the Rothus School Complex” project is being optimized and divided into three essential sub-projects. This structured approach enables efficient implementation and targeted focus on the various aspects of the reassessment and re-commissioning of school facilities. The new construction and renovation of the existing buildings presents an opportunity to create a modern and forward-looking school building that meets current requirements.
The following are planned:
Subproject 1: Adaptation of the environment
The surrounding facilities of subproject 1 include a hard court, a large grass playing field, and a park-like garden area, as well as access with parking spaces and bike shelters. To adapt the sports facilities to the current requirements, new plans are necessary, especially since up to 350 students are expected in the facility during peak times. To counteract the density stress, sufficiently designed outdoor spaces must be created, which also applies to the newly designed access and parking area, which must take into account cars, bicycles, and deliveries.
Subproject 2: Extension and new construction
The new building is planned for the northeastern side of the property, bordering to Wegmühlegässli and Bolligenstrasse. A similarly designed recreational pavilion is planned for the southwestern part of the property, which will complement the covered recreational area.
Subproject 3: Renovation of existing buildings
The existing complex consists of three buildings with a total floor area of approximately 8,726 m². Since no significant construction measures have been taken since the partial renovation in 1995, there is now a need for maintenance.
The roofs of the special section and the gymnasium were insulated during the last major renovation in 1995 and meet the energy standard of 1995. To improve the indoor climate and eliminate leaks in the existing skylights of the special section, its roof will be renovated.
Subproject PV: Photovoltaics for existing buildings
From a preservation standpoint, a uniform appearance of the roofs of all existing buildings is necessary. Therefore, all roof surfaces should be equipped with a uniform, roof-integrated photovoltaic system.
Subproject MOB: Furnishing
The operational equipment of the usage-related facility, such as milling machines, kilns, etc., and the furniture, such as tables and chairs, must be newly provided, as there is no longer any school furniture available.
